This tour explores Edible Schoolyard NYC’s largest garden at PS 216 in Brooklyn—a former lot now a vibrant space with orchard & herb garden.
This tour will explore Edible Schoolyard NYC’s oldest and largest school garden at PS 216 in Gravesend, Brooklyn— converted from a parking lot in 2010 and now a vibrant half-acre school garden.Participants will learn about the Edible Schoolyard NYC program, which hosts pre-K through 5th-grade classes, a student garden club, weekly volunteers, community open garden hours, and a farmstand during the growing season. The horticulture team will share about crop plans, how the school community influences what is grown, the benefits of perennials and pollinator plants, managing a small orchard, and growing an assortment of plants in our onsite greenhouse.
