Thank you for your interest in volunteering
As an Edible Schoolyard NYC volunteer, you’ll join our citywide community of urban gardeners and food educators, helping to grow the next generation of healthy kids. Inquiries are always welcome, but please note that volunteer opportunities are limited. All applicants will be contacted regarding the status of their application.
“The moral of the story is that we need to work together to get things accomplished.”

Volunteerships are semester-long programs. You’ll assist in the kitchen or garden one or two weekdays per week, during the school day, for three to five months during the fall or spring semester. Garden volunteers are also needed for summer term. All volunteers are required to undergo a one-time, fingerprinted background check to be eligible to work at a public school.
As a kitchen volunteer, you’ll work with Edible Schoolyard NYC teachers to create a fun, familiar kitchen environment, helping with food prep, setup, and cleanup. You’ll also serve as an important role model for our students, demonstrating safe and respectful ways to interact in the kitchen.
As a garden volunteer, you’ll assist Edible Schoolyard NYC staff in garden maintenance. Get ready to get your hands dirty, working rain or shine to develop and share urban organic gardening skills. All levels of gardeners are welcome!
